This initiative is designed to offer comprehensive coverage for visitors to the island, which includes emergency medical assistance, help for lost passports, and repatriation of remains in the unfortunate event of death. In a meeting held on Thursday, Dr. Saada Mkuya Salum, the Minister of State (President’s Office) for Finance and Planning, underscored the necessity of this service. She highlighted that the government currently incurs significant expenses for the medical care of tourists facing health issues—costs that could be reduced through insurance. The meeting, attended by various stakeholders in the tourism sector, concentrated on refining the new insurance offering to ensure that it meets the needs of tourists while supporting the government’s objective of establishing Zanzibar as a safe and secure destination. Mr. Jape Ussi Khamis, the Acting Managing Director of ZIC, emphasized the importance of collaboration to achieve the goals of this initiative. This new insurance service is part of a larger strategy to improve the tourist experience in Zanzibar, ensuring visitors can access essential support during unexpected situations. |
