THE HOLLAND WOMAN WITH PHYSICAL DISABILITY CLIMB KILIMANJARO WITH ZARA TOURS TO RISE FUNDS SO AS TO SUPPORT DISABLE CHILDREN




Wendy Boardman is a native of Holland who lost her right leg in 1999 when she was 35 years old, This woman has done wonders in this world because she has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro for the third time through the Marangu route to improve the world that “disability is not inability” as well as raising awareness on the needs and abilities of people with physical disabilities and funds for her country’s based charitable organization called foundation friends of the port Reitz school.

 Wendy Boardman, a 53-year-old Dutch woman whose right leg has been amputated following a medical error, is challenging herself to climb Kilimanjaro (5,885 m) on October 21. She will be accompanied by Yann Moulard, her Saint-Malo coach.

In June 1999, when she twisted her ankle falling from a wall, Wendy Baardman was taken to hospital. There, his radio is exchanged with another and the doctors give her the wrong treatment. Following this medical error, Wendy must resolve to have her right leg amputated. After many years in a wheelchair, she was fitted with a prosthesis, which allowed her to walk again in March 2016.

A cause that feeds his motivation

The former high-level martial arts athlete remains smiling and retains the strength of character in all events: "When you have the will and the strength to fight, you can do it," she says. It is in this state of mind that Wendy sets herself a challenge: to climb to the top of Kilimanjaro. At the origin of his challenge, his involvement in his foundation, the Friends of the Port-Reitz school, which aims to improve the quality of life, health, and education of disabled children? Wendy realizes this challenge for the 300 disabled children of Mombasa school in Kenya in need, especially to get a new bus.

Boardman explained that she has decided to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro which is also famously known as “The Roof of Africa” with also the aim of delivering mobility into the lives of children teens and adults within the community who otherwise would have limited resources to acquire a wheelchair on their own in Tanzania and Kenya through the charity Kill climbing organized by Zara Tanzania Adventure for the cause.

From 1999 to 2016, I was in a Wheelchair before I had a special electric leg, and through our  3rd Mount Kilimanjaro Climb dubbed; “Kilimanjaro Charity Climb” we are going to improve to World that, disability is not an inability, as well raising funds to support disabled children in Tanzania and Kenya,” she explained.  She added that, through the special Mt Kilimanjaro expedition, they want also to show disabled people that they can do anything they want.

According to her, the Holland-based Foundation Friends of the Port Reitz School is also transforming lives by providing dignity of mobility, hope, and opportunity through freedom of independence. Through the generosity and support of both local and international sponsors, called Foundation Friends of the Port Reitz School can deliver hope, independence, and enable human and social upward mobility…” Cairns explained.

Boardman also explained that they will have their fourth Mount Kilimanjaro Expedition with her friends from Holland, France, Kenya, and Tanzania in January 2023, aiming to fulfill her dreams of reaching the mountain's highest peak-Uhuru Peak (5,895m ASL) for the cause. She further explained that her organization will support disabled children in Tanzania through ZARA Tours as well as Kenya through the 'Friends of Port Reitz School Foundation' Mombasa.

For his part, the president of the 'Friends of Port Reitz School Foundation' in Mombasa, Kenya Morrison Asava explained that the goal of the foundation is to improve the quality of Life, Health, and Education to give them a better future. “The Port Reitz School in Mombasa, Kenya is a school with 300 handicapped & socially disadvantaged students of which 165 are boarders. The foundation was formed in Holland in 2009. You can give a handicapped child a brighter future,” she explained.

The Chief Guide of the special expedition from ZARA Tours, Theophil Karia explained that clients with disabilities had many challenges during their Mount Kilimanjaro climb, but he had a big special team to care for them during their climb.
